What a weekend of emotions !!!

Yesterday (Saturday) was the last day of Club Netball - Grand Final Day!!
With many superb wins and as many disappointing loses, the players gave and the spectators viewed some fantasic games of netball.

As Cripps Waratah Club Members our "congrats" are extended to the U/15 Div 2 and First Grade teams who both won their games.

A very special mention is extended to the talented players of the U/11 Cripps Waratah Team. A most heart wrenching decision at the end of their game where they simply out classed the AYC U/11 Team (30-8), denied them the Premiership win. Each member of this team has improved their knowledge of the game and their individual netball skills during the 2008 season and their undefeated record will not go unrecorded I'm sure. WELL DONE GIRLS - you should hold your heads up high due to your outstanding performance during the season.

Claire's Presentation Dinner (DJ Palena) was held last night at the Tattersalls Park in the Ophir Room. The Club recognises efforts from all their players during this evening, from TNL players through to their U/11 players. They also acknowlege past recipients of Life Memberships to the Club and also induct new members.

Claire received "The Most Promising Junior Talent Award". She accepted the award with a "thankyou" speech that acknowledged the 4 Coaches that helped her during the 2008 season (Jeff Andrews, Shane Fish, Tash Wylie & Janelle Smith) and also a sincere thankyou to the Club for accepting her this year. It takes great courage to speak in front of a group of large people and particularly on the spur of the moment when your holding a trophy in your hand (and all you want to do is "check it out"!!). The Senior Members of the Club approached me afterward saying how well she did and how proud they are of her. Of course, no-one could be prouder than me and Chels (who applauded the loudest) - WELL DONE FUZZ xx

Well it's Sunday and we're heading to C.A.N.A. training this morning. The girls will have their team photos taken today in full uniform. Chels is excited about that.
I will post some photos to this site as soon as I can for you all to see.

Don't forget to let me know what you think of our site, and of course if there's anything you think I can improve on - I welcome your COMMENTS !!!

C.A.N.A. Training today !!

As it's Sunday the girls had C.A.N.A. training today.

There's only 5 weeks until we'll be in Townsville (woo hoo) - and Michelle has the U/13 Team in full swing (as does the coaches of the U/15's, U/17's and U/21's) - a fitness session was taken today by Peter Brockman for the U/13's.

The team of 10 girls (Chelsea York, Ellie Gray, Kate Archer, Tahlia ?, Lauren Downward, Kalinda Gasparin, Kate Higgins, Georgia Downward, Rebecca Joseph & Renee Brellis) all enjoyed the challenging training session - I'm pleased it was them and not me (hehehe). It consisted of many routines containing high knees, star jumps, fast feet, squats, boxing and quick running drills. (Phew - I'm exhausted just writing about it).

Michelle gathered the girls afterward for a team bonding session and arranged for them to enjoy lunch together after training.

I took some photos of the girls today after the training session (yes, that's them above!!). I have a few exciting things planned to give to the girls as momento's for them to keep to remember their time playing netball in the CANA National Championships in Townsville 2008 with the U/13 Team.

Chels' Last Day of Club Netball for 2008

Chelsea played in her Preliminary Final against Kilburn yesterday at 10.30am.

Although the girls were slow to put goals on the board they worked their way back into the game with some quick passes into the goalies (Lauren GA & Molly GS) from Chelsea (playing Centre) and were able to level the scores at 1/4 time.

A few changes were made and the girls came out wanting to win in the second quarter and with Lauren and Chelsea teaming in the goals (GA & GS respectively) they managed to creep ahead slightly at one stage.

Georgia and Kalinda battled hard in defence (GD & GK respectively) and they had their work cut out for them with Kate Archer playing GS and Rhiannon in the GA position.

Chelsea was rested in the 3rd quarter and as Kalinda and Georgia defended hard and with Lauren shooting acurately Cripps managed to keep within just 2 goals going into the final quarter.

The final quarter was very disappointing. The Cripps Centre court played were tired and struggled to get the ball to our shooters (Chelsea GS & Lauren GA). With Kilburn making the most of every opportunity they piled on the goals and were booking themselves a place in the Grand Final next week against Kingston.

Kilburn defeated Cripps by 7 goals.

Both Cripps and Kilburn teams have the majority of the U/13 CANA team players. They are: Cripps - Chelsea York, Kalinda Gasparin, Lauren & Georgia Downward. Kilburn - Renee Brelis, Kate Archer & Kate & Tahlia of whom their surnames allude me at the moment (yes, I know I'm hopeless!!).

Ok - we're getting ready to head off to Bayswater Road for CANA training. It starts at 10.00am - just 5 weeks before we head to Townsville !!!

Southern Primary Schools Netball Carnival

The Southern Gold Division 1 Team members were: Renae Stone, Chelsea York, Chloe Eiszele, Emily Foster, Nicole Graham, Teeghan Honey, Codey Cantlay, Matilda Wiggins and Linda Fish. The girls were coached by Kylie Broadbent. The team was selected from the following schools that trialled: Bagdad, Bothwell, Brighton, Bridgewater, Fairview, Glenora, Green Point, Kempton, Maydena, Molesworth, New Norfolk, Oatlands, Ouse & Westerway.

The Carnival was held at Creek Road, New Town today (19 August 2008)

Their first game was at 9.30am this morning against the Southern Green team. Southern Green consisted of traialled players from Cambridge, Campania, Dodges Ferry, Dunalley, Gagebrook, Herdsmand Cove, Levendale, Orford, Risdon Vale, Richmond, Sorell, Tasman, Triabunna & Warrane.

Emily Foster (GS) and Teeghan Honey (GA) played very well and was able to level the scores at 4-4 at the end of the first half. Chelsea York moved into WA for the last half and was able to feed the ball to Chloe Eiszele (GA) and Teeghan Honey (GS) to increase the scores.

Renae Stone (GD) was outstanding in defence and was able to keep the Southern Green's scores to a minimum with her timely intercepts.

The final score was Southern Gold 14 - Southern Green 8.

The second game was against Southern Blue at 10.30am. This team was selected from players from the following schools: Albuera Street, Bowen Road, Campbell Street, Goulburn Street, Landsdowne Crescent, Lenah Valley, Mt. Nelson, Mt. Stuart, New Town, Princes Street, South Hobart, Taroona and Waimea Heights.

Teeghan Honey and Chloe Eiszele teamed in goals and enabled the team to get off to a great start with acurate shooting and the score at the end of the first half was 7 - 1.

Chelsea York moved into GS and teamed with Chloe Eiszele at GA in the second half. With Teeghan Honey in the Centre and Emily Foster moving into WA paved the way for an outstanding second win.

The final score was Southern Gold 16 - Southern Blue 5.

The final game before lunch was against Huon/Channel. This team consisted of selected players from the following schools: Blackmans Bay, Bruny Island, Cygnet, Dover, Franklin, Geeveston, Glen Huon, Huonville, Illawarra, Kingston, Margate, Snug and Woodbridge.

The game was hard fought and with Chelsea York at GA combining with Matilda Wiggins at GS the scores were very close at half time 5 - 3.

The Centre court players, Teeghan Honey, Nicole Graham and Codey Cantlay came out playing very hard and with very tight defence from Renae Stone and Linda Fish, they were able to deny Huon/Channel many scoring opportunities and with accurate shooting from Chelsea York in GA, Southern Gold were able to take the win at the final siren.

The final score was: Southern Gold 10 - Huon/Channel 5.

Our lunch consisted of mixed sandwiches and yoghurt along with a much earned rest and idle "chit-chat" in the warm and very comfortable players room. Although the rain stayed away, the gale forced winds weren't so kind and played havoc with the balls as the goals were trying to shoot.

The first game after lunch was against Southern Red. This team was made up from selected players from the following schools: Bellerive, Clarendon, Howrah, Lauderdale, Lindisfarne, Lindisfarne North, Montagu Bay, Rokeby and South Arm.

Matilda Wiggins - GS teamed with Chelsea York at GA and they easily piled on the goals in first half as they were assisted by Teeghan Honey - C and Emily Foster at WA. Linda Fish and Renae Stone combined well in defence (GK & GD respectively) and they kept the Southern Red score to a minimum.
The half time score was 9 - 3.

Chelsea York and Teeghan Honey were rested for the second half and this enabled Chloe Eiszele and Matilda Wiggins to increase the score. The unchanged defence line-up once again proved their worth and kept the Southern Red goals to just 1.

The final score was Southern Gold 13 - Southern Red 4.

Due to the extremely windy conditions the players were moved indoors for the final game against Southern Black. This team consisted of players selected from the following schools: Abbotsfield, Brent Street, Claremont, Collinsvale, Glenorchy, Goodwood, Mt. Faulkner, Moonah, Roseneath, Rosetta and Springfield Gardens.

Southern Gold's Matilda Wiggins - GS and Teeghan Honey - GA increased their teams score very quickly in the first half and as they were fully supported by Renae Stone - C and Nicole Graham WA the half time score was 8 - 1.

Chelsea York - normally an attacking player, requested to remain in the GD position at the other end of the court and teamed well with Linda Fish and the Centre Court players, Emily Foster and Chloe Eiszele and they were runaway winners in the second half.

The final score was : Southern Gold 15 - Southern Black 6.

All the girls enjoyed the carnival and were undefeated Division 1 Champions!!! The Huon/Channel team were in 2nd place.

WELL DONE GIRLS !!!

Our First Day of Netball Finals was Today !!

We had an early start this morning as Nikki and Laura Boxall both played their games at 8.45am (poor Lisa and Darren had to swap between the two games - what's the chances??). Nikki's U/11 team was undefeated for all the rostered games, and they showed their dominance again today with a solid win (although was a bit shaky mid-way through the game) - they now get a break next week and will play the following week in the Grand Final.

Laura's team U/15 Div 3 weren't so lucky :(
They had a hard game (Elimination Final) against Kilburn and although they managed to keep the margin to within a few goals all game, Kilburn eventually took out the game and sadly Laura's 2008 Club Netball Season ended.

Chelsea's U/13 Div 1 team played Karana in their Elimination Final at 10.15am. Although Karana had not beaten Chels' team throughout the rostered matches, they came out played hard and fast right from the first whistle and Cripps felt the pressure and were only just in front at the first break. Chels played a great game in the Centre Position and tried extremely hard to put pressure on her opponent. Teaghan Honey (Chels' STNA & Southern Gold School Team mate) also played a terrific game on the wing for Karana. Karana game out fighting in the second quarter and totally left Cripps for dead!!!! At half time Karnana lead by 8 goals.

Chelsea moved into the Goal Shooter position when they commenced the third quarter. She teamed well with Lauren in the Goal Attack position and they managed to head into the final quarter only 2 goals down (25 - 27)!!
**There was a bit of controversy - the siren sounded as the Cripps team was heading to the goal third....but the umpires didn't hear it (nor did the teams on the next court) and Cripps scored a goal - the Karana coach was going NUTS at the umpire - the umpires ruled the goal to count !!

The final quarter was the nail biter !!! Cripps came out playing hard and were the victors by just 1 goal (33 - 32)....yes the dreaded goal that was allowed after the siren at the end of the third quarter. We felt for Teaghan, but gladly accepted the win as any other would.

It was now time to head to court 5 (11:45am) to watch Bec Boxall and Ellen Bowerman's Elimination Final against OHA (U/17's Div 1). This too was a hard fought game and with much disappointment we watched the team go down by 7 goals. It should be noted that Sara White (OHA - GA) played extremely well and it goes to show that if a goalie shoots close to 100% in her game then her team will win. An outstanding performance Sara !!

We then made our way over to court 6 to watch Tracey & Jo (Third Grade) play in their Elimination Final against OHA. The girls were only 1 or 2 goals down at the end of ever quarter, but with Jo and Andrea's intercepts and their chasing of loose balls along with Tracey and Janine's exceptional shooting in the Final Quarter, they eventually took out the game by 6 goals. Well done Team !!

Claire then played with DJ's First Grade at 4.15pm on Court 5. She warmed the bench during the first quarter and then took to the court at Goal Shooter for the 2nd, 3rd and final quarter. Although they played well at times, their unforced turnovers cost them valuable goals and consequently the game. Claire (aka Fuzz) played a good game though and scored many goals and also assisted Janelle Smith (Goal Attack) with many screens that enabled her to score.

So out of the original number of 6 (players / teams) that we were watching today:
Nikki U/11's
Laura U/15's div 3
Chelsea U/13's div 1
Bec U/17's div 1
Tracey & Jo Third Grade
Fuzz First Grade

Only 3 progress through to next week (although Nikki gets a week's rest as they now play in the Grand Final in 2 weeks time) they are:

Nikki U/11's
Chelsea U/13's div 1
Tracey & Jo Third Grade

Congratulations girls on a great season (for those who have now finished for 2008) and Best of Luck to those who are continuing on in the coming weeks.

Cheers
Lisa :)
